Product Info

This drill stop fits #40 drill bits (0.098" / 2.49 mm), the standard drill for 3/32" rivets and 3/32" clecos. The zinc (silver) spring matches the colour of our 3/32" C Series clecos, so the right stop is easy to pick out of the tray.

A drill stop is a spring loaded depth stop that locks onto the shank of the bit with a hex socket set screw. Only the length of drill you leave exposed can enter the work, so the bit cannot go any deeper than you set it. As you reach depth, the rounded steel nose settles on the panel and the coil spring takes the lunge out of the breakthrough, instead of letting the chuck slam into the skin.

That matters most on a #40. It is the thinnest bit most builders use, and the moment it punches through and grabs is when it snaps. A stop keeps the plunge under control, keeps chuck marks and dents off the skin, and keeps the bit out of whatever sits behind the panel, whether that is a control cable, a wiring loom or the far wall of a fuel tank.

How to Use

  1. Fit the stop: slide it onto the drill bit from the shank end, rounded nose towards the tip and set screw collar towards the chuck.
  2. Set the depth: hold the nose pushed back so the spring is fully compressed, then position the collar so the bit stands proud of the nose by the thickness of your stack plus a few millimetres for the drill point.
  3. Lock it: tighten the set screw with a small hex key (not included) and let the nose go.
  4. Drill as normal: when the nose touches the surface the spring starts to compress, and when it bottoms out the bit can go no deeper.
