Forever the "Queen of the Skies", the new 747-8I (passenger) and 747-8F (cargo), now bring the venerable 747 well into the 21st Century. First announced in 2005, the 747-8 initially took to the skies on 08 Feb 2010. The new series of 747-8 aircraft, now replace the ever popular 747-100, 200, 300 & 400 types, whose lineage dates back to the 747's first flight in 1669.
The new 747-8 series now feature an all new wing & engines, enhanced electronics, state of the art interior and the use of more lighter weight components for the ultimate in efficiency. A lengthened fuselage gives this new design enhanced capacity and makes it the longest passenger airliner in the world. By taking advantage of improvements in technology and aerodynamics, the 747-8 types now burn less fuel, operate quieter and can travel even greater distances, over earlier 747 designs. Many design features have been carried over from the all new Boeing 787 airliner allowing airlines that operate both types, the opportunity to reduce their operating costs. With this blending of technology, the 747-8 is a proven design, yet benefits from the latest technology features of the advanced 787 airliner.
