This drill stop fits #21 drill bits (0.159" / 4.04 mm), the standard drill for 5/32" solid rivets and 5/32" clecos, and the tap drill for 10-32 threads. The black spring matches the colour of our 5/32" C Series clecos.

A drill stop is a spring loaded depth stop that locks onto the shank of the bit with a hex socket set screw. Only the length of drill you leave exposed can enter the work, so the bit cannot go any deeper than you set it. As you reach depth, the rounded steel nose settles on the panel and the coil spring takes the lunge out of the breakthrough, instead of letting the chuck slam into the skin.

5/32" holes usually mean heavier structure: spar caps, fittings and thicker stacks where the point of the bit is buried and you are drilling by feel. The stop puts a hard limit on depth so the bit stops where you want it, and the spring soaks up the breakthrough so the chuck never reaches the surface.

Drilling for 5/32" blind rivets? CherryMAX and pop rivets in that size call for a #20 hole, so use the #20 drill stop instead.

Paano gamitin

  1. Fit the stop: slide it onto the drill bit from the shank end, rounded nose towards the tip and set screw collar towards the chuck.
  2. Set the depth: hold the nose pushed back so the spring is fully compressed, then position the collar so the bit stands proud of the nose by the thickness of your stack plus a few millimetres for the drill point.
  3. Lock it: tighten the set screw with a small hex key (not included) and let the nose go.
  4. Drill as normal: when the nose touches the surface the spring starts to compress, and when it bottoms out the bit can go no deeper.
