This drill stop fits #20 drill bits (0.161" / 4.09 mm). #20 is the specified drill for 5/32" blind rivets, including CherryMAX -5 and 5/32" pop rivets, which call for a 0.160" to 0.164" hole. It is also the larger of the two accepted drills for 5/32" solid rivets (the other is #21), and 5/32" clecos fit either hole. The spring is zinc (silver).

A drill stop is a spring loaded depth stop that locks onto the shank of the bit with a hex socket set screw. Only the length of drill you leave exposed can enter the work, so the bit cannot go any deeper than you set it. As you reach depth, the rounded steel nose settles on the panel and the coil spring takes the lunge out of the breakthrough, instead of letting the chuck slam into the skin.

Blind rivets go where you cannot reach the back of the job, which is exactly where you least want a bit running on into something you cannot see. Set the stop for the stack you are drilling and the bit cannot go any further, and the spring soaks up the breakthrough so the chuck never reaches the surface.

Drilling 5/32" solid rivet holes with a #21? Use the #21 drill stop, colour matched to 5/32" clecos.

使用方法

  1. Fit the stop: slide it onto the drill bit from the shank end, rounded nose towards the tip and set screw collar towards the chuck.
  2. Set the depth: hold the nose pushed back so the spring is fully compressed, then position the collar so the bit stands proud of the nose by the thickness of your stack plus a few millimetres for the drill point.
  3. Lock it: tighten the set screw with a small hex key (not included) and let the nose go.
  4. Drill as normal: when the nose touches the surface the spring starts to compress, and when it bottoms out the bit can go no deeper.
