This drill stop fits #10 drill bits (0.1935" / 4.91 mm), the standard drill for 3/16" clecos and AN3 bolt holes and a common choice for 3/16" rivets. The brass spring matches the colour of our 3/16" C Series clecos, and it is the only brass stop in the range.

A drill stop is a spring loaded depth stop that locks onto the shank of the bit with a hex socket set screw. Only the length of drill you leave exposed can enter the work, so the bit cannot go any deeper than you set it. As you reach depth, the rounded steel nose settles on the panel and the coil spring takes the lunge out of the breakthrough, instead of letting the chuck slam into the skin.

At 3/16" you are usually drilling for bolts or the biggest rivets on the aircraft, often through fittings thick enough that you cannot see the point of the bit. A hard depth limit is worth having when the other side of the hole is a hydraulic line, a fuel bay or a finished skin.

使用方法

  1. Fit the stop: slide it onto the drill bit from the shank end, rounded nose towards the tip and set screw collar towards the chuck.
  2. Set the depth: hold the nose pushed back so the spring is fully compressed, then position the collar so the bit stands proud of the nose by the thickness of your stack plus a few millimetres for the drill point.
  3. Lock it: tighten the set screw with a small hex key (not included) and let the nose go.
  4. Drill as normal: when the nose touches the surface the spring starts to compress, and when it bottoms out the bit can go no deeper.
